Use this comparison chart to help decide which gas heating product is suitable for your requirements.

Gas Space Heater Wall Furnace Ducted Gas Heating DGH with INtegrated Cooling
What is it? Gas Space Heaters
Fixed gas heater which uses natural or LPG gas to heat the air.
Gas Wall Furnaces
Fixed tall gas heater which uses natural or LPG gas to heat the air.
Ducted Gas Heating
Fixed gas heater that uses natural or LPG gas to heat the air which is then distributed through ducts into the home.
Ducted Gas Heating with Integrated Cooling
Fixed gas heater which uses natural or LPG gas to heat the air, combined with a refrigerated air conditioner which uses the same ducts to distribute cool or warm air into the home. These systems typically use the same controller to control both heating and cooling.
How does it work?

Gas Space Heaters
Air is drawn into the top of the systems, warmed inside the unit and discharged through the bottom louvres.
An adjustable speed fan allows users to regulate the flow of the warm air, which is gently circulated throughout the room.
These powerful heating combinations are capable of warming large spaces quickly and efficiently.

Ducted Gas Heating
Ducted gas heating consists of a furnace, ducting and a return air grille.
The furnace is fuelled by natural or LPG gas.
Air is drawn in by a fan and passed over a heat exchanger which warms the air.
Ducts distribute the warm air through the home.
The return air grille recirculates air to the furnace beginning the cycle again.
Ducted gas heaters can be installed inside the roof space, on an external wall or under the house (not suitable if you have a concrete slab).

Ducted Gas Heating with Integrated Cooling
Ducted gas heating works as per the previous description, however with integrated cooling, the same ducts are used to cool the home with a refrigerated system. Ducted refrigerated air conditioners have two separate mechanical parts, an outdoor compressor and an indoor unit with fan and heat exchange coil. The outdoor compressor unit compresses refrigerant gas into a liquid state to allow the refrigeration effect to take place, exactly the same way as does your home refrigerator.
The compressed gas is transferred into the indoor unit. The fan is connected and then controlled by a room installed thermostat that draws the air from inside the home, passes it through a filter and then recirculates throughout your home.

What is the average cost of purchasing and installing a system?

Gas Space Heaters
$350 AUD- $1400 AUD

*This is approximate and could vary depending on the quality of the unit.

Gas Wall Furnaces
$500 AUD - $2000 AUD

*This is approximate and could vary depending on the quality of the unit.

Ducted Gas Heating
$4,000 AUD - $10,000 AUD

*This is approximate and could vary depending on the quality of the unit and the size of the home.

Ducted Gas Heating with Integrated Cooling
$4,000 AUD - $10,000 AUD

*This is approximate and could vary depending on the quality of the unit and the size of the home.

What size room will it heat or will it heat my whole house?

Gas Space Heaters
18Mj Space Heaters (40 - 60m²)*
25Mj Space Heaters (60 - 85m²)*
*Coverage indicator only. Based on brick veneer construction, insulated walls and ceilings, 2.4 m ceiling height and suitable window coverings.  Precise heating capacity calculation should be undertaken to determine the correct  unit required for your specific application.

Gas Wall Furnaces
30Mj Wall Furnaces (60 - 90m²)*
40Mj Wall Furnaces (80 - 110m²)*
*Coverage indicator only. Based on brick veneer construction, insulated walls and ceilings, 2.4m ceiling height and suitable window coverings.  Precise heating capacity calculation should be undertaken to determine the correct unit required for your specific application.

Ducted Gas Heating
Ducted gas heating warms the whole home and depending on the system, can be zoned to heat different areas to different temperatures.

Ducted Gas Heating with Integrated Cooling
Ducted gas heating with intergated cooling generally warms/cools the whole home depending on the system installed, number of ducts and size of the home.

What kind of energy does it use? Gas Space Heaters
Natural Gas (connected to your home) or LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) bottled gas.
Gas Wall Furnaces
Natural Gas (connected to your home) or LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) bottled gas.
Ducted Gas Heating
Natural Gas (connected to your home) or LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) bottled gas.
Ducted Gas Heating with Integrated Cooling
Ducted gas heating uses Natural Gas (connected to your home) or LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) bottled gas, while integrated cooling uses electricity.
How much energy does it use and how much will it cost to run? Gas Space Heaters
Gas heaters are energy efficient, generally providing more heat at a lower cost.
Gas Wall Furnaces
Gas heaters are energy efficient, generally providing more heat at a lower cost.

Ducted Gas Heating
Gas heaters are more energy efficient than reverse cycle alternatives.

Ducted Gas Heating with Integrated Cooling
Gas heaters are more energy efficient than electric alternatives.Refrigerated air conditioners generally use more energy to cool than evaporative air conditioners. Due to varying energy prices and usage variations it is difficult to provide a cost.

What is the most effective system for my climate? Gas Space Heaters
Gas space heating works efficiently no matter how cold it is outside, so is suitable for all climates, especially where the temperature drops below 5°C (41F).
Gas Wall Furnaces
Gas wall furnaces work efficiently no matter how cold it is outside, so is suitable for all climates, especially where the temperature drops below 5°C (41F).
Ducted Gas Heating
Ducted gas heating works efficiently no matter how cold it is outside, so is suitable for all climates, especially where the temperature drops below 5°C (41F).
Ducted Gas Heating with Integrated Cooling
Refrigerated cooling is most effective in hot & humid climates.

Ducted gas heating works efficiently no matter how cold it is outside, so is suitable for all climates, especially where the temperature drops below 5°C (41F).

Lifestyle considerations Gas Space Heaters
Gas heating does not dry out the air.
Gas Wall Furnaces
Gas heating does not dry out the air.
Ducted Gas Heating
Gas heating does not dry out the air.
Ducted Gas Heating with Integrated Cooling
Gas heating does not dry out the air. With refrigerated air conditioning, because the air is recirculated, windows or doors need to be closed otherwise the cool air escapes.
Environmental considerations Gas Space Heaters
Gas heaters have lower greenhouse emissions compared with electric heaters and solid fuel heaters. Natural gas space heaters release one-third the emissions produced by heating from black coal generated electricity.
Gas Wall Furnaces
Gas heaters have lower greenhouse emissions compared with electric heaters and solid fuel heaters.
Ducted Gas Heating
Gas heaters have lower greenhouse emissions compared with electric heaters and solid fuel heaters.
Ducted Gas Heating with Integrated Cooling
Gas heaters have lower greenhouse emissions compared with electric heaters and solid fuel heaters. With a refrigerated air conditioner, carbon dioxide emissions are many times higher than an evaporative system. These systems use synthetic refrigerants to cool. You can minimise the impact on the environment by selecting a system with an inverter and referring to the star ratings.
